The Hit and Run Raid

Nothing annoys an enemy more than petty harrassment other than a full-blown invasion. Often a player has resource outposts that are rather lightly defended. Attacking such areas though time consuming can throw a wrench into your enemy's plans while not taking on the often heavily fortified hometown.

A typical taskforce will usually consist of horse archers and cavalry. A small group of 5-10 will do with preferably some horse archers in the mix. Horse archers are important for their ranged fire which can help shoot down villagers who are the main targets in the attack. Ride them up in a spread formation to reduce any damge from defending siege weapons. Focus all fire on defending soldiers and then pick off the villagers. Do not follow enemy units to their home town and most definitely away from the town towers. If a tower or two is defending the area, back off unless you have a sufficient amount of knights in the raiding party to raze it. When enemy defenders come in force, pull out for your town. Your town defenses will act as a cover for your escape if any cavalry are still in pursuit.

Remember to never bite more than you can handle in raids. If the defense is to strong simply back off and come again another day or try somewhere else.
