DefenseThe Gauntlet DefenseThis is a special type a defense I employ often when wall barricades are not immediately practical. A gauntlet defense is designed to spread a net of overlapping fields of fire over essential areas of one's towns. Build towers next to important buildings as well as a castle or two at the likely approach vectors. Bombard towers should be placed at strategtic points to anchor the defense structure with their immense fire power. Towers should be spread apart but close enough to support each other. The towers should be among the clusters of buildings surrounding your town center. Garrisoned archers help to strengthen defenses. Walkways should exist between buildings but no wider than a house length. This design creates narrow alleys and thus bottle necks. Scorpions and manogels as well as trebuchets hold backstop positions in the interior on Stand Ground setting. Cavalry should be on hand to knock out any incoming siege weapons. Technologies are important to this setup. Murder Holes are an absolute must in this defense or any defense for the matter. The gauntlet style defense creates a pseudo-wall defense for protection. The defense is always best with walls helping to buy time. The defense compliments with a standard walled city defense to protect the interior if the perimeter is breeched.
