StrategyCivilian DefenseVillagers and town centers can go a long way in strengthening a town's defenses or shoring up the perimeter. This wroks very effectively versus the computer. It is less effective against human players however but still worthwhile to investigate. Town centers start with a decent ranged attack but only fire when garrisoned. Town centers can garrison upto 15 units giving it rather deadly firepower to take on some levels of attack. With this in mind, a town center can be used as a "wooden tower". There is only so much stone on the map, so town centers are a good way to shore up defenses. Villagers are also rather useful at 50 food each. Though they could be working, they make cheap garrison people and don't use up precious gold. In this way, they can add firepower to castles, towers, and town centers. The civilian workforce can be used to complement standard military defenses to better defend your base against the enemy. In the future, do not be afraid to use civilians for defense as they only require food and wood.
